Andrew Karasev, Great Plains Certified Master invites challenging GPA customers on DOS, Windows

Andrew Karasev

If you are still on this antiquity Corporate ERP application, such as Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac – my respect to you. Probably the economy hardship made its impact, or you simply decided to keep family business style in your company and associated low profile, or even when you decided to make every penny accountable in the business development – all these reasons are absolutely legitimate. Let’s now see what is possible for you now and in the future:

1. Upgrade. It is possible to upgrade GPA all the way to the current Microsoft Dynamics GP version 2010 (as we are writing these lines in December 2010). Migration is not cheap, comparing to what is your support budget for current Great Plains Accounting application, but this is an option, and if you feel that the business is now back in perfect shape – we are here to help you out

2. Migration to another small business accounting package. You can decide to switch to something reasonably cheap, such as SAP Business One, QuickBooks, Peachtree, MYOB, or you name it. How do you do data conversion to export your customers, vendors, employees, GL accounts and transaction history from Great Plains Accounting? There are several ways. The most feasible in our opinion is to print out GPA reports into text files, and then open and reformat them in MS Excel. Then you save Excel into CSV format and import them into your future Accounting application (everyone should support text file level data conversion)

3. If you would like to stay with GPA as long as possible. This is OK, we recommend you to move Great Plains Accounting from such archaic operating systems, as Novell or WindowsNT (they are pretty reliable by themselves, but the computer hardware is probably no longer under the warranty contract and it might be too expensive to find somebody who can support Novell in the sense of redeploying it on the new computer hardware) to Windows Server 2003, Windows Small Business Server 2007 or even on in single user workstation scenario to Windows 7. Please, be aware here, that Btrieve as it was introduced for Great Plains Accounting for DOS (or Pervasive SQL 2000 if you are on Great Plains Accounting for Windows) was not compatible with modern Microsoft Windows 64 bit platform (if you purchase the new computer from the store, it will be Windows7 64 – you cannot install GPA on such computer)

4. Please call us: 1-866-528-0577, We serve you USA/Canada nationwide via remote support (web sessions and phone/skype conferences). Local service is available in Western Michigan, Chicagoland, Southern California (LA, Orange County, San Diego), Houston area of the state of Texas
