  High Performance Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer

Perry Keller

Toronto, Canada – GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) has released its high performance Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) which is intended for engineers and technicians to measure unit, connection or transmission loss and to locate faults and breaks in optical fibers. The mini-OTDR is commonly used in the manufacture, construction and maintenance of optical networks.
This rugged mini-OTDR, model 6413, features 1.6m short event dead zone, 0.1m sample resolution with 65k sampling points, a pulse width from 10ns to 20480ns and a high dynamic range of 42/40dB which ensures accurate signal processing. The OTDR reads and writes files in Bellcore GR196 file format and offers a large memory capacity for data storage. Data can be transmitted to a PC by a serial or parallel interface; a USB interface is also provided for data transmission. It offers optional optical connectors: FC and UPC. The OTDR is equipped with a large color LCD touch screen to clearly display signal analysis results. The high performance OTDR works continuously for over eight hours when it is fully charged; battery levels are displayed accordingly.
