Faith and Farming To say that farming and God go together like a fish in sea is an understatement. Farming is one of the most roughest, toughest jobs on earth -- next to ranching, mining, serving in the armed forces and maybe even working on an oil rig. Anyhow, farmer's success depends a whole lot on things that only God can control. For example, milk. A cow cannot produce milk unless she has a calf. No calf, no milk. And what person alive can bring a calf or anything else to life without God's blessing? And then let's take growing crops in the field. Sure, the farmer works hard preparing the land, planting the seeds and maybe even watering it, but who brings it to life? God of course. What about pasturing sheep? Yes, the farmer needs to rotate the sheep from pasture to pasture so they don't kill all the grass. And yes, he needs to water the sheep so they don't dehydrate. But who is the one who keeps an eye on the sheep during the night when the coyotes are out and there's no shepherd or watch dog to tend to them? Ultimately, God is the one who takes care of his animals. So, when farmers look to the sky for rain or look to the ground for sign of sprouting crops, they know in their heart that God is in control. If they don't have faith in God, they won't be farming long.
