John & Becky's Movie Review Of "Friday Night Lights" Becky and I saw "Friday Night Lights" this weekend and we both really enjoyed this movie. The Story
Coach Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) leads the Permian High Panthers of Odessa, Texas in a quest to be the state football champions. Based on the bestselling book, the movie chronicles the hopes and dreams of the players, parents and town.

The Review
This was a great movie filled with plenty of emotion, action, powerful characters and a moving story. Becky and I both enjoyed this flick and Becky is not a football fan, so that's saying quite a bit about the power of this film.

Billy Bob Thornton (Coach Gaines) plays the head football coach in a small Texas town that finds it's identity in high school football. The town is out of control when it comes to football. The pressure put on the kids on the football team to perform is as though they were paid professional athletes. After each game, the local radio station has "armchair quarterback" fans calling in to second guess the coach and the players on what they could have done different.

The town puts tremendous pressure on the players and the coach. When the team starts losing games from an injury to a key player, citizen's put "For Sale" signs in the front yard of the coach. One part of the film that I found interesting was when two opposing Texas teams each kneeled in prayer before the game. I leaned to Becky at that point and said, "That's when you know you're in Texas." It was pretty cool to see the faith and motivation of these kids.

If you're a football fan you will love this movie and if you're not, it's interesting enough that you will enjoy the film. "Friday Night Lights" was like watching a Saturday afternoon of ABC's Wide World of Sports, complete with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

I'm giving it a Don't Miss It and Becky thought it was Worth The Trip.
