John & Becky's Movie Review of "Paparazzi"  Becky and I saw "Paparazzi" last week. The official "Paparazzi" website can be viewed at http://www.paparazzithemovie.com/ and is more interesting than the film.

The Zap2it website at http://www.zap2it.com/movies/details/1,1295,39328,00.html
describes the story as follows:

The Story
Rising actor Bo Laramie has a so-so relationship with photojournalists, until he becomes convinced that a quartet of particularly aggressive snappers is threatening his family's safety. After a pushy photographer causes a brutal accident involving his family, Laramie decides to strike back at the journalists.

The Review
Mel Gibson produced "Paparazzi" and all we could figure is that he wanted to make a statement about how nuts his life must have been during the hoopla surrounding "The Passion of The Christ". The acting in this movie is terrible and the message of this film is that the paparazzi are the lowest life form on the planet.

Forget "The War on Terror", the real band of thugs causing all the trouble in the world are out taking pictures of celebrities. The paparazzi of this movie are not just out ambushing celebrities for a high priced photo, they all have criminal backgrounds and if you cross these power yielding photo thugs they will destroy your career and your life. As if the egos of Hollywood really need anyone to help them destroy their careers or their personal relationships? My prediction is that this one is going to make a quick trip to the rental rack.

The premise of the film is that there is a young and rising action star, Bo Laramie (Cole Hauser), from Montana who is a golden boy for Hollywood. Bo has a run in with the kingpin of the paparazzi, Rex (Tom Sizemore), when Rex takes a photo of the actor’s son at a soccer event - sparks fly and Bo loses his cool. In this film, the paparazzi have bigger egos than the actors, so they stalk Bo and his family to teach Bo who really has the power in Hollywood. For some reason, there are no other actors in Hollywood for this group of high-profile camera junkies to photograph. Fast forward to a high-speed chase that looks like a re-enactment of Princess Di's tragic automobile crash and Bo's little boy is in a coma. The action star is now ready to rumble.

It's all downhill from there with silly cameo appearances from Mel Gibson, Chris Rock (as a pizza delivery guy), Matthew McConaughey and Alec Baldwin playing one of the worst of the paparazzi gang. I commented to Becky, "Word probably spread around Hollywood that a movie was being made about the paparazzi and the phone must have started ringing with requests from actors to be included in the film."

Dennis Farina plays the lead detective who's on to the actor's plot to take revenge on the people responsible for his son being in a coma. Of course, the young actor from Montana is too smart for the Hollywood detective, as he slowly bumps off his adversaries until the climatic ending.

Becky said that "Paparazzi" reminded her of a made for T.V. movie that would have been better on late night television. Our recommendation is to wait for the rental.

Becky's Rating: ** Rental
John's Rating: ** Rental
