John & Becky's Movie Review Of "Laws Of Attraction"  Becky and I saw "Laws Of Attraction" on Sunday night. The "Laws of Attraction" website at http://www.lawsofattractionmovie.com/ has a Sweepstakes you can enter to win a trip to Ireland or some other exotic location. You need to enter by May 17th, 2004, so you only have two days left.

The Fandango website describes the story as follows: http://www.fandango.com/movie_page.asp?mv=84086

The Story
Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore star in Laws of Attraction, a tale of two New York divorce lawyers who face off inside and outside of court.

The Review
This is a really simple romantic comedy about how opposites attract and how two divorce lawyers can find love even when the odds appear to be against them based on their profession. Julianne Moore is a middle age woman who is engulfed by her career as a high powered divorce lawyer. She has a Mom (Frances Fisher) who is more socially active than she is and is trying to get her daughter to wake up that life is passing her by and there is more to life than just winning a case.

Pierce Brosnan is a famous divorce lawyer who is tired of fame and fortune and looking for love. He falls in love with Julianne Moore and while working on the opposite ends of a high profile case they end up in Ireland in an enchanted castle owned by a rock star. Will they fall in love in this romantic fairy tale setting or will they go back to business as usual to finish battling in the courtroom? It's predictable at times, but has a few surprises and some good laughs.

This is a cute film that is targeted to an older audience, particularly women who enjoy romantic comedies. We enjoyed Frances Fisher's role as the aging beauty Mom trying to stay young as much as the main characters. On several occassions Julianne's character calls her "Mom" which she scorns and reminds her that she is not supposed to call her "Mom" in public. She would prefer people to think that she is her daughter's sister rather than her "mother". This was pretty funny given the botox and other treatments to stay young that the "Baby Boomers" are running to these days.

Becky said, “I would recommend this movie as being worth the trip.” I liked it, but I think that most people would prefer it as a rental rather than paying for it on the big screen. Unless of course, you're an avid movie goer and really enjoy romantic comedies.

Becky's Rating: *** Worth The Trip
John's Rating: ** Rental
