John & Becky's Movie Review Of "Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius"  I went to see "Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius" with my friend Billy Hotzfield. Becky doesn't play golf and my friend Billy was an avid golfer before his brain injury from an ATV accident, a little over a year ago. Billy also reviewed the Alamo with me, which you can read by clicking here: http://editorials.arrivenet.com/article.php?aid=139

The "Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius" website at http://www.bobbyjonesthemovie.com/ is doing a clever marketing promotion for the movie where if you bring friends to the movie they will send you a free poster:

"By joining the ''Friends of Bobby Jones'' program, you pledge that you will personally bring ten or more friends to the theatre and that you will pass along our ''Friends'' newsletter. In return, we will send you an autographed movie poster free! In the spirit of Bobby Jones, we will simply take your word on it."

The Fandango website describes the story as follows: http://www.fandango.com/movie_page.asp?mv=84790

The Story
Before Tiger Woods...before Jack Nicklaus, before professional sports became the behemoth industry it is today, shined one of the most gifted natural athletes the world has ever known. A man whose extraordinary talent and will to win earned him the Grand Slam of golf -- a record he still holds to this day -- and universal recognition as one of the greatest golfers in history. A reluctant hero, his grace and charm made him one of the popular figures of his day. His name was Bobby Jones.

The Review
Jim Caviezel went from playing Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's "The Passion Of The Christ" to Bobby Jones amateur golfer. He plays Bobby Jones with as much intensity and passion as he played Jesus, which helps make this a very interesting story to watch. What's exciting is that it's based on a true story.

Jim Caviezel is quoted on the official website as saying the following: "It's a great film for young people who are trying to find their way. Nowadays, sports stars and other celebrities say, ''I'm not your kid's role model.'' It's an excuse to act however they want, to make huge amounts of money. But Bobby wasn't about that. He was a guy who embraced the idea, who said, ''Yes, I am a role model. I'll take that responsibility.'' His pureness drew me to him. That's my own heart, and exactly the kind of characters I like to follow and at least try to emulate."

What I found appealing about this movie was that Bobby Jones competed with professional athletes while remaining an amateur. This movie takes you through the progression of his life from a young boy with health problems to learning to play and love the game of golf. You watch his defeats as well as his triumphs and the struggles he faces as the best golfer in the world. It's a movie classic that will make a great addition to your DVD collection, especially if you love the game of golf. I don't think you have to be a golf fan to enjoy this movie.

Billy and I both liked watching this movie and Billy looked at me at the end of the movie and said, "That was awesome". It did leave us with a good feeling at the end when he gave up professional competition at the top of his game to commit his life to his family. It would be a great pre-requisite for all athletes turning pro to watch this movie before they get their first big contract. He was clearly a man of integrity who loved the sport of golf and didn't just do it for the money. We don't find that very often in professional sports today. Rarely, do athletes today put the love of the game and the loyalty of their fans ahead of a bigger paycheck.

If you are looking for a solid wholesome movie to go and see this Weekend then this is your movie. It's a nice break from the action packed adventure movies to see a good drama based on real life events.

Billy's Rating: **** Don't Miss It
John's Rating: *** Worth The Trip
