John & Becky's Movie Review Of "Alien vs Predator" aka: AVP  I convinced Becky, against her will, to go and see "AVP". The official "Alien vs Predator" website at http://www.avp-movie.com/ has more details on the film, if you really need it.

The MovieFone website at http://movies.channel.aol.com/movie/main.adp?mid=16226 describes the story as follows:

The Story
Two legendary sci-fi creatures go head to head, with humans in the crossfire. A team of archeologists in Antarctica find an ancient temple inhabited by a clutch of fanged Aliens, only to discover that a band of young Predators have arrived to battle with these creatures, their ancient adversaries.

The Review
> The original Alien with Sigourney Weaver has been on the top ten list of all time spooky sci-fi flicks for millions of movie fans. Then came Arnold Schwarzenneger's science fiction thriller, Predator, that pitted Arnold against an alien monster who came to planet Earth to hunt people for trophy sport that became another sci-fi horror classic. Each of these movies had interesting stories to go with the action, suspense and fear. You may recall the original trailer for Alien, "In space no one can hear you scream". What if you brought both of the monsters in these two popular movies together and had the two aliens battle each other? What a novel idea. It could be like the Wolfman meets Frankenstein all over again.

We had really low expectations for this movie going in and Becky didn't even want to see it, but I talked her into it. Well, she was right and we shouldn't have wasted the time or the money. This movie is so bad that FOX should have made it an episode for the Simpson's. Homer could have taken a trip to Antartica and joined an expedition that gets caught in the middle of an alien war. The story would have been more fun and we could have been rooting for Homer to get out alive. That's how horrible this film is to watch.

Trying to create a story to bring two alien monsters together to duel in battle was such a bad idea, I don't know how it didn't get canned before production. They even got a PG-13 rating to increase the audience, but it should have been rated R for violence. The two original films were both rated R, so you got me how they got it a PG-13 rating. There are about 20 people who get brutally killed by aliens and predators in AVP.

The film starts out when they introduce all these characters, a guy talking about his kids and showing pictures, an archealogist, a scientist and then within 15 minutes of meeting the monsters, they are all dead. It was ridiculous that they even had anyone in the movie other than the female heroin. I figured she was supposed to be the Sigourney Weaver of the Alien films, but it doesn't work because you're hoping they whack her off too and end the movie. How does she get away from the Aliens? Why she teams up with the last Predator to become his sidekick and take on the big bad Aliens. It makes no sense whatsoever.

There is not much more to say other than that if you like Jaws 3D or other really cheesy horror films than this is your film. For the rest of you, don't even waste your money at the rental rack because this is definitely not worth your time.
