John & Becky's Movie Review of "Mean Girls"  Becky and I saw "Mean Girls" on Saturday night. The "Mean Girls" website at http://www.meangirls.com/indexflash.html has a link to the trailer with a fun website, which even includes a few games for teenage girls. The Fandango website describes the story as follows: http://www.fandango.com/movie_page.asp?mv=84166&aff=&source=fr3_t

The Story
Lindsay Lohan plays a teen who enrolls at a Chicago public high school after growing up abroad. She then experiences how cruel teenagers -- especially girls -- can be when she falls in love with the wrong guy.

The Review
Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live "Weekend Update" wrote the screenplay for this film. She also assumed the role of a dorky math teacher and Tim Meadows from Saturday Night Live plays the school principal. Many teenagers will identify with the various social groups presented in this film. Tina hit various high-school "clicks" that we all remember, from "burn-outs" to "math geeks."

Mean Girls is pretty funny. Lindsay Lohan's character has been home schooled her whole life while growing up in Africa. Now she is thrown into the jungle of high school for the first time and she gets a whole new experience in dealing with the various social tribes of high school. She's a math whiz who is invited to join the pretty girls of the school who everyone can't stand, but wants to date or be like. These are the "mean girls" referred to as "the Plastics" and by doing so she begins to compromise her other relationships. Of course, the Plastics are also rich and completely clueless. To give you an idea of how clueless, the lead "mean girl" in the group at one point asks Lindsay Lohan's character "Is butter a carb?".

If you liked the movie Clueless, then you should like this movie. It's completely different, but funny in that it deals with the various high school personalities and social situations. A few of the characters are annoying at times, such as a big goofy gay guy who follows a girl character around the entire movie. There are some really good laughs and the story keeps your interest.

There is a good message about how trying to fit in and compromising your integrity can lead to bad decisions that can hurt yourself and others. If you have teenagers they should really like this movie. It has received good reviews by most of the critics for an older audience as well.

Becky and I both liked "Mean Girls" and are rating it as being worth the trip.

Becky's Rating: *** Worth The Trip
John's Rating: *** Worth The Trip
