The Christian's Greatest Responsibility  What are you like when nobody is watching? Are you the same person at home with your children or your spouse that you are at work with your boss or your employees? Today's professional athletes have the advantage of being able to watch themselves on video and see the mistakes they are making during competition. If only we could see how we act in various situations and be able to see ourselves from God's perspective. How different we would modify our behavior, if we could understand that there is an audience watching and that someday we will give account for every idle word spoken.

It is clear that God has great tasks for men to fulfill in eternity. We are told by the apostle Paul that we will judge the world and even judge angels - 1 Corinthians 6:1-3. Jesus told the apostles that they would sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel - Matthew 19:28 . One of the great passages of the Old Testament is the description in Isaiah of God's promise to those who wait for his redemption.
> Isaiah 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

Who can fathom what God has in mind for the role of men in eternity? Jesus said that he went to prepare a place for us and that he would come again to receive a bride without spot or blemish. Are there cities to be ruled? World's to be reached as God's agents of His authority? For whatever tasks God has prepared before the foundation of our world, we know that He is seeking those who can rule because they have served. People who can command because they have been obedient to His will. Those who have been willing to lose their lives in Christ to be found by Him. Our Heavenly Father is even now searching the Earth and trying the hearts and reigns of men for people who can fill His eternal posts.

Who are these people and what do they look like? Maybe it's you? It could be that co-worker or employee that you think is not filling a high position among men or that quiet janitor who empties your trash with a smile on his face. God doesn't judge men and women by our standards. When Jesus watched the people putting their money into the treasury he commented about the widow who gave more than the rich men because she gave out of her want and in faith. How awesome to know that we have a God who sees and meets us where we are and not by the world's standard of success. We are told in parables by Jesus that those who are faithful in the little things will be rulers of many things. Think about the little things in your life today. I stopped to think about it when I got angry with my four year old this morning for his actions toward his older brother. I had to ask if my response to my son was how God would have dealt with me when I was angry with my fellow man, let alone my own brother.

How can we be faithful in the little things? We can begin by looking at our positions from the future position of eternity and realize that there is little difference between men in the eyes of God. Is a doctor more important than a street sweeper in God's eyes? The real choice is to follow your calling that God has given you and work as though you had but one employer, the God of the Universe. Imagine how your life would change today, if you could look at the rest of your life as a job interview. Forget the Apprentice and working for Trump, the biggest job interview is currently underway by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who is looking for people who will join Him in His eternal kingdom.

Don't get me wrong by thinking that we are saved by doing. On the contrary, we are saved only by God's grace (God's Rewards At Christ's Expense) and the atoning sacrifice of Christ, which is really what Christmas is all about. The fact that we are saved, should compel the Christian to want to go about His Father's business. Recognize that if you are alive to God in Christ than you are a new creature with a mission of being a living epistle and serve God in everything you do. Begin to trust that God has filtered what comes to you, so that His Son can be formed in you and so that God can bring glory to Himself through you. There is no greater responsibility than to serve God in everything we do, even those little things that we often think are insignificant. Not that we do anything for God, but that we serve God in everything we do.
