Auto Parts and You  There are literally thousands of auto parts websites on the internet today. Conservative estimates place the number at close to 30,000 sites. This can make choosing the right website very difficult. Who should you trust? Which sites offer the best quality parts? Is price always the determining factor in who you should choose?

Let’s start by explaining the different types of auto parts websites. Even though there may be 30,000 sites out there, most of them are owned by the same people. One company may own up to five or six hundred separate sites. This is done to get the most exposure to search engines. Each one of their sites will concentrate on different aspects of the auto parts market. One site may advertise heavily on Honda parts, while another places emphasis on Ford parts. This allows them to fool search engines into thinking they are different companies. You can usually spot these types of companies because their sites look and feel very similar to each other.

Another kind of website is your major retail chain sites. These are companies that have historically been brick and mortar type companies. Due to the popularity of shopping online, they have created websites to compete with many of the smaller companies who rely heavily on the internet. One of the most popular examples of these sites is Parts America (http://www.partsamerica.com). This is the site for CSK Auto. Many people have been to a Checker, Schuck’s or Kragen auto parts store before. These are the stores owned by CSK Auto. They have more than 1,200 retail outlets in addition to their website. A site such as this is definitely one you can trust because the history of the company is so extensive. The one downside to a website like this is the pricing is not always the best because you are paying for the name. In addition, the brands are not always the best available.

Another option is one of the many local distributors that have entered the internet. Numerous local wholesale distributors have entered the online auto parts market. One of the most popular and oldest is Autohaus Arizona (http://www.autohausaz.com). They have been selling auto parts since the late seventies and have been online for almost ten years now. They have a reputation for being a customer service orientated company. This type of service is always helpful when trying to decide what is the best choice in parts for your car.

Whoever you plan on purchasing from, make sure to do a little research. Lookup their name online to see if anybody says anything about them. Other consumers like you will post their experiences in a variety of forums online. You can find both good and bad feedback for almost any company online. This will help in determining who you can trust to purchase auto parts from.

Brand quality always has to be a consideration when purchasing auto parts. You always want to get the highest quality part available for your car. If you go to the dealer, you will almost always get the best quality. Unfortunately, you will always pay way too much for that part as well. Dealerships make most of their money in the service and parts aspects of their business. That is why you will find yourself sometimes paying more than list for auto parts there. If you want the same quality but at a much more reasonable price, online websites can be your best bet. Instead of buying the parts in the OE box, you can buy the part in the original part’s manufacturer’s box. It is the same exact part with the same brand, but it does not come in the OE box.

Price should never be the determining factor in choosing an online auto parts source. Besides quality, reputation and service, lead times should also be looked at. How long is it going to take to get the part you are looking for? Many online retailers advertise your order will ship out the next day. What they put in the fine print is the order will ship out the day after the parts come into stock. I have personally waited weeks for parts I have ordered. Even from a site such as Parts America.
