Microsoft Dynamics GP since version 8.0 is Microsoft SQL Server application, so you can try SQL server data massage and migration approach, if you have resources available in your IT staff. If your data is not huge (over 5 GB), you can try Integration Manager approach, where you move master records (account, customer, vendor) and work (meaning not yet posted transactions – SOP Invoices, POP Receipts, PM Vendor invoices, RM customer invoices, GL transactions, etc) transactions to GP via IM and then post them to historical dates. Typically historical data conversion is the most consultants time consuming and can have some unpredictable surprise with the future data repair needs
· GP Integration Manager. This is end user friendly tool and typically intuitively understandable, assuming that you do not plan such complex things as IM VBA modifications and customizations. IM requires license purchase, so cost scenario should be discussed. IM is under the way to be rewritten in eConnect, so former concerns about IM performance will be no longer actual, however for version 10.0 we still see it use GP OLE server
· SQL scripting conversion. In some cases, the scenario is to combine GP functional consultant, who does parts of the conversion and data massage in MS Excel (yes, this is where you can govern your data change)
· Tables Import. We discourage you from using this tool, regardless of the fact that it might seem easy enough on the first glance. Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity workflows: business logic and technical records distribution in SQL, especially posting is really complex and we do not recommend you to imitate it in Tables Import
· Dexterity conversions. If you need ongoing conversion, this is where Dex may be considered as a tool. Dex is free for you if you are deploying Dex developers outside of your company. Dex is GP initial and original architecture, so it has control over all GP objects and transactions, including posting, where eConnect has limits (you will have to deploy Alba Spectrum Porting Server to post GP transactions from your eCommerce application, written in ASP, C# or VB.Net)
