mode. We welcome new clients, especially with technically challenging Microsoft
Great Plains projects. In this small article we will give you Great Plains ERP
highlights:
- Implementation.
Typically it includes such phases as modules selection, including so-called
third party modules: Trinity, Mekorma, DynamicsZIP, Avalara, WennSoft,
Horizon, etc. Next step usually comprises data conversion and user
training. Data conversion typically is just initial balances setup, but
sometimes it requires historical data import into Great Plains. Next step
is usually first month in production – it is recommended to do parallel data
entry into Dynamics GP and legacy accounting and then compare monthly
figures.
- Customization.
There are traditional and new customization tools. Traditional tools:
Microsoft (Great Plains) Dexterity, Modifier/VBA, Database side custom SQL
scripting: triggers to notify user about certain event (such as delinquent
customer payment, etc.). New Tools: eConnect with XML Web Services
interface, Xtender, .and others
- Integration.
eConnect is becoming the most popular and reliable tool, also SQL Stored
Procedures should be considered – they enable so-called Heterogeneous or
Cross-Platform integration with your legacy system, sitting in Oracle for
example. Microsoft Dynamics GP is pretty comprehensive end-user tool
- Reporting.
ReportWriter is legacy Dexterity-written tool, Crystal Reports was the tool
of choice up to the version 8.0, since version 9.0 Microsoft SQL Server
Reporting Services are recommended
