Microsoft Dynamics GP Customizations: eConnect vs. Dexterity

This article is for computer professional, who is serving Great Plains Software Dynamics community at least 10 years.  Well, if this is applicable to you then you probably remember, that fundamental Great Plains Dynamics and earlier eEnterprise development strategy was based on Great Plains Dexterity.  If you are company IT person – then you had option to use VBA/Modifier, but real GP product or seamless customization should of being created in Dexterity

• Earlier eConnect.  This product was initially designed for eCommerce web developers to enable Great Plains play the role of back office server
• Matured eConnect.  As time was going on, eConnect expanded its influence over the majority of Microsoft Dynamics GP modules, such as POP, Payroll, Inventory Control, etc.
• Dexterity-eConnect collaboration.  There are multiple scenarios to consider.  First, Dexterity fits into GP security model and from its custom screens you can call Visual Studio 2005 or the latest version developed dll procedures, that in turn are calling eConnect dlls or web services interface
• Object Oriented eConnect.  In fact eConnect is object oriented, while Dexterity is not.  This translates into the message that eConnect software development is faster vs Microsoft Dexterity
