Moving Great Plains from one SQL Server to another |
Hi, I did backup of DYNAMICS and my company databases on the old server, then I created the databases on the new server with similar names and now I am trying to restore them from the backups of my old server and getting error message: Device activation error. The physical file name .... maybe incorrect? Any suggestions? |

Re: Moving GP from one server to another |
Inga, Message you are getting indicates that physical files location of data and log files on the new server is different. In the old server you may have somewhat like C:\MSSQL7\Data\GPSDYNAMICSDat.mdb and on the new server you may have C:\Program Files\...\Data\GPSDYNAMICSDat.mdb. When restoring you need to switch Options tab on restore database screen, mark restore over existing database and edit restore as string. |

Thanks but... |
Now I have databases restored, but I can not login into Great Plains.??? |
|

Andrew |
Great Plains creates its own logins and database roles |
This is why you can not login. The easiest way around is to first create the same databases by installing Great Plains on the server from installation CDs and then reload DYNAMICS and company databases from backups. |

I created databases and loaded from backup,.. |
now users can not login, however when I use sa - it works??? |
|

Andrew |
Users are logins in master database |
and since you did fresh installation of SQL - new master database doesnt have user logins in it. There is special techknowledge on Great Plains support website, which you could try. Another approach is to create new users (however user logins should be different) in great plains and reassign security to new users. This is good approach is you have just a few users |

MS SQL Enterprise manager doesn't work after GP workstation installation |
Hi, I have no clue - I just followed Great Plains installation procedure. And when Great Plains workstation was installed - my MS SQL Server Enterprise manager doesn t work. Any clues? |
|

Andrew |
This is probably known issue about FRx installation |
Jorge, Have you installed FRx as part of your Great Plains installation procedure? If so - this is known issue. You have to reintall MS SQL client tool, which will fix one of the dlls corruption, caused by FRx client install. |

MS CRM Shuts down the browser |
When you try to open MS CRM in Explorer it shuts down the browser in trying to open. It happens on some PCs and doesn t on others. ??? |
|

Andrew |
It is because of pop-ups stopper |
Mike, What Microsoft CRM does - it re-opens the browser and in the new instance of the browser you do not see toolbar and address bar. When you open the browser in such a manner - pop-up stopper shuts it down, misidentifying as a pop-up. You should disable pop-up stopper Andrew |

I am developer, need a clue on how to link asp page with MS CRM |
Well, we have legacy asp application, which sits in old IIS and we do not want to touch it. Now we are moving our intranet business system into MS CRM. We need to open asp pages with the data transferred from CRM and security credentials and from asp we need to call back to CRM and create activity there. What is the best way? |
|

How to integrate asp with CRM |
Mark, To get maximum of the integration you need: 1. From CRM Account/Contact or other window with the button placed there call the ASPX application which will pull all the additional information from CRM to be transferred to asp page. This application should use MS CRM SDK and the best language to use is C#, because MS has all the sample in SDK in C# 2. The application in #1 calls legacy asp page with parameters transferred in url 3. ASP page calls HTTP handler (which you need to create in VS.NET c# or vb). This HTTP handler will call Web Service (which will use MS CRM SDK functionality - you should create this service in VS.NET). This web service will create activity in MS CRM, And again - this is just the directions, no details in here. Andrew |

Bonus Depreciation in Great Plains? |
In the first I must depreciate additional 30 or 50%. Can not do it in my old application, we plan to switch to GP. How do you do it in Great Plains? |
|

Bonus Depreciation in Great Plains |
Helen, In Great Plains this functionality is included. In cards ->fixed assets-> book you have field Special Depreciation Allowance, which can be enabled and if so it defaults to 30% additional depreciation for the first year. You can change it to 50%. Andrew |

Unlock the user in Great Plains |
Go to System->(enter password)->User Activity and delete user from the scrolling window. For Pervasive SQL admins: you can ask all the users log off and delete activity.btr file in system folder of your Dynamics system folder on the server. For SQL admins: ask all the user log off and run delete activity statement against DYNAMICS database. If you still have problems with the locked users or any others, please post here and we will try to answer. Alba technical support team: Andrew, Bernard, Imad, Larissa |

Kiwell Max Pervasive SQL.2000 issue |
Peter, Some customers reported that they had similar problem when thery stayed with Pervasive SQL.2000 while the server was upgraded to Pervasive SQL.2000i (this is SP3 or SP4). We had similar issue and had to upgrade clients to SP3. Hope this will give you the direction. In general - our opinion - this is cinflict between SP1 or SP2 of Pervasive SQL.200 and new redesign of Pervasive SQL.200(i) released as SP3 |

| 3/16/2004 | Ian Webster | Var in South Africa | Hi there We are a Ms var in S.A specializing in dex development. We are currently looking into deploying our dex chunks with MSI files. Have you guys experimented with this ? We are also looking into intergrating CRM with great plains if you could send us any info on these two subjects it would be great thanks Ian Webster | |||
| 3/18/2004 | Andrew | Var in South Africa | Ian. We do follow traditional cnk file approach, however I do understand your points. We have to consider this when Dexterity customization used COM objects to call web services – in this case it would be nice to have MSI installation. Regarding integration, you have the whole sections Microsoft CRM Integration to BO-Great Plains on Partner Source -> Techknowledge. However majority of cases relate to 1.0, some for version 1.2. | |||

| 3/18/2004 | Andrew | Re: transparent images in Dexterity | Paul, you need these combination for background color of the picture: Red (R) - 192 Green (G) - 192 Blue (B) - 192 If you change user s settings - it will stay transparent | |||

| 4/11/2004 | John | RMS: Items do not upload from companies to headquarter database | We do daily 401 and transactions are successfuly uploaded to HQ from the stores. However new items (which are already in the above transactions) do not come into Item table and we can not see them in HQ. I also tried also 260, 250 and 101 - the same results - all the new items do not come into HQ | |||
| 4/11/2004 | Andrew | Re: Items not uploaded from Stores to RMS Headquarter | This is correct. Items should be created in headquarters and then downloaded to stores. The reason that Microsoft recommends adding items at HQ is that your Headquarters will then have the master list of items and will in turn update the stores with the new items that they need. So, items should be created on the headquarters level | |||
