In best case scenario you as Microsoft Dynamics GP customer who is following the recommended version updates and who is currently is on version 9.0 or 10.0. However it is also common, when you have GPS Dynamics, eEnterprise and Dynamics C/S+ for historical records lookup and when your old company is now “on the shelf”. These and others situations may require you to search for consultant help in restoring GPS Dynamics for the following legacy versions: 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0, 7.5. These mentioned versions were available on several DB platforms: Ctree/Faircom, Pervasive SQL 2000/Btrieve and Microsoft SQL Server 6.5, 7.0 and 2000. If you do not have Pervasive SQL floppy disks with license key (it is lost through these years) we can restore GPS Dynamics on Pervasive/Btrieve on single user workstation. Some GPS Dynamics on Btrieve reinstallation highlights:
2. Locations concept.
Btrieve technology manages records from workstation in contract with MS
SQL Server, where workstation just sends tabular text to the server and
gets response. This is why Btrieve needs to know about where your data
(such as GL00100.BTR) files are. Locations are stored in SY02100.BTR –
normally you find there records like the following: :C:/Dynamics/. Now
let’s move on to location translation concept
3. Location Translation
table: SY03600.BTR. It would be too inflexible if once installed GPS
Dynamics on Btrieve could not be moved due to fixed location scenario.
This is why Great Plains Software designed location translation
mechanism. If you move your Dynamics from C:\Dynamics to \\Myserver\Dynamics\
you need to give Dynamics location translation command
4. Fate of GPS Dynamics.
In the end of 20th century Microsoft purchased Great Plains Software and
took over its ERP products: Great Plains successor is now Microsoft
Dynamics GP, current version is 10.0 (September 2007)
5. Great Plains Dynamics
legacy version upgrade. This is highly recommended that you stay with
your historical investment and pay for being reinstalled in Microsoft
Dynamics annual enhancement program
6. Great Plains Accounting
migration to Microsoft Dynamics GP. We do not recommend to do it in
house, as it has multiple settings and what-if decisions and fixes |
