Tech Sector Breakthroughs Will Be A Big Draw At GITEXSeptember 11, 2005 -- Recent breakthroughs in the fast-expanding technology sector will be one of the high-focus segments at GITEX 2005, as manufacturers and developers attempt to keep pace with the requirements of the industry and the individual needs of clients, announced organizers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The 25th edition of GITEX, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 25-29, will showcase many products that stand apart from others in technological advancements. Among the main attractions will be the latest developments in tablet computing, slim and thin notebooks, stamp-sized flash memory cards with a memory range of 32MB to 3GB, real-time anti-virus and security software, highly functional super-quality video graphic cards and next generation IP telephony platforms.

“The technology sector is advancing at such a rapid pace that most products tend to get outdated within a matter of months from their launch,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Khalfan Al Marri. “GITEX acts as an ideal platform where products can be launched immediately after the design-stage. The event helps manufacturers gauge the market sentiment before introducing the product on a wider scale,” he said.

Leaders from the consumer electronic industry will also use GITEX to display much-anticipated home digital environment innovations, while several manufacturers will be showcasing niche products for the small and medium businesses (SMBs) and home users as well.

According to the latest IDC report, worldwide IT spending will increase to $1.3 trillion by the end of 2009, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.9% from 2005-2009. Government, manufacturing, and banking will be the industries that provide the most attractive opportunities for IT vendors worldwide.

The IDC report adds: “With both the consumer and communications markets exhibiting interesting dynamics and consumer spending on IT services, peripherals, and PCs experiencing double-digit growth, the potential is huge. With this rebound, the sector's spending on IT is estimated to be $95 billion in 2005, and $128 billion by 2009. Growth within this market will be driven primarily by heavy investment in network equipment, PCs, as well as peripherals and storage.”

Last year GITEX attracted 939 exhibitors representing more than 2,428 companies from 41 countries. The record-breaking event attracted 116,346 visitors and occupied all available halls in the centre.
