Nottingham Magic - the East MidlandsNottingham, England, September 11, 2005 -- Nottingham Magic, based at Bilborough Sixth Form College, is set to be Nottingham's fourth korfball club. The club will be launched off the back of National Korfball Week, a nationwide development to increase participation in the sport. With more and more people taking up this mixed-sex, non-contact ball sport (known to some as Dutch basketball), the time is ripe for another club in the city.

Nottingham Korfball Club has seen over ten successful years of competition at all levels, with its first team currently playing in the National Premier League. Members of the club have decided that the city is more than able to sustain another non-student club (with existing clubs at Nottingham University and Nottingham Trent University) and so Nottingham Magic is launched.

The Magic will take full advantage of the brand new sports hall at Bilborough College, ideal for korfball with a high ceiling, partially sprung floor and large floor area giving what will be one of the biggest indoor pitches in the country. The hall is so good that Nottingham Korfball Club have decided to switch all of their home National League games to the venue for the coming season.

Training will begin on Monday 19th September and will take place weekly from 8pm until 9.30pm at Bilborough College (Bilborough Road, Bilborough, Nottingham, NG8 4DQ). Anyone and everyone is welcome, especially complete beginners and those who haven't even heard of korfball before. The club has one team entered into the 2nd Division of the Central England League for the coming season, an ideal place for beginners to learn their stuff in friendly yet competitive games.

The club has been established by four of Nottingham Korfball Club's first team members, all fully qualified coaches. They will continue to play at the highest level whilst establishing the club and taking responsibility for coaching Magic's new members.

Korfball is the world's only true mixed team sport, and emphasises teamwork over individual brilliance. The British Korfball Association is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2006.
