With most homes now having a computer with Internet access and the increased dependence on computers by companies across the globe, why do people still have problems building a simple spreadsheet? Is it the teaching in schools, the training in the work place or is it the plain ignorance on the individual’s part.
I believe the issue lies with the speed in which computers have advanced technology wise. This rapid growth has produced a divide between the older and younger generations. Children of the present enjoy having computer studies sandwiched between history and chemistry while the older generation would have been turning a block of wood on a lathe.
I know of many older individuals who have mastered navigating around the Internet and can send an Email or two (my mother included) but this is only scratching the surface of what capabilities the computer holds. There should be more opportunities for the ageing Internet surfer to gain a stronger knowledge of what they could potentially achieve.
Is there enough support given to those who would like to learn more but cannot afford it financially? I don't think there is.
