IRAQ VOTE: DEMOCRACY CONTINUES  J. Grant Swank, Jr.

The US evening late news shows Iraqis dancing in the streets. They are elated. One woman said to reporters that she had renewed hope for her future. Men clapped their hands. Others waved banners. The avenues were filled with celebrators anxious to put down Muslim murderers global.

It is what US President George W. Bush predicted. He has stayed true to those Iraqis desiring freedoms throughout their country.

No one concludes that it will be easy. No one says that the vote by the grassroots will bring immediate peace. But it is another step toward establishing person liberties in a nation that once endured humans fed headfirst to shredding machines.

Saddam Hussein and sons raped women, killed their husbands, split their families, caged citizens in crates in the public square and then enjoyed their banqueting tables, orgies and palatial luxuries.

No more.

Yet the Hussein enthusiasts still hark back to the hellish regime as if #### for power lost. However, the Iraqis nationwide showed up for the ballot box to cast their vote not only for the constitution but for the democracy to be put in place with utmost security.

Thanks to the multinational forces still on target with the Iraqi militia and security forces. Thanks to the international leaders who stood alongside Mr. Bush. Thanks to the Red States voters who placed their own ballots for GWB’s continuance in the Oval Office.

Nothing is simple. Life is complicated. There is much imperfection in a spiritually damaged world. However, the brave continue to keep the faith, work in hope, and labor hard for what is good for others. Even those truly courageous lay down their lives for another, as Jesus taught His disciples.

US Democratic Party lost in today’s vote. US political and theological liberals lost in today’s vote. Nay-sayers in Europe lost in today’s vote. US Republican Judases (Republicans in Name Only: RINOs) lost in today’s vote.

At this moment, the White House must be celebrating along with those Iraqis who are breathing easier tonight because of the ballots cast with little opposition. Mr. Bush and team deserve applause for the freedom spread.

Interestingly enough, the Cindy Sheehans are silent today. They have lost as well. Their egocentric displays, their selfish litanies, and their tirades against Mr. Bush have come to naught, though the liberal press gave them plenty of space on page one.

"Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari cast ballots in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, where Iraq's parliament and the US Embassy are based.

"’As I am casting my vote I feel an enormous happiness knowing that this is not an ordinary step but a big step,’ al-Jaafari said after voting."

"Voter turnout was brisk. In the capital, women waited patiently to cast their ballots. Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabr, also voting in Baghdad, praised officials who organized Saturday's vote.

"’Voting on the constitution is the best voting in the world in terms of security, stability and turn out,’ he said. Iraqi Defence Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi said he felt confident the result would be a ‘yes’ vote in support of the draft," according to the Associated Press via ndtv.com.
