Prevent Bird Flu With TAMIFLU  For most people all over the world two words have become synonymous with death and fear - bird flu. Bird flu is a disease, which is caused by the H5N1 strain of the influenza virus. Is bird flu going to transform itself into a massive killer of humans? Or is it simply going to fade away? One important fact comes out. Whenever it has struck, the fatalities are 50% of the total infected group is of humans. This is mainly because people don’t know what medicine to take if they are struck by bird flu. The main question, which revolves on the head of docs throughout the world, is of how do we deal with this kind of virulent disease? Firstly try to prevent it. The best way to do that is cordon off the affected areas, which includes many parts of south East Asia. But this is not enough there is increasing evidence, experts say, that a thriving international trade in smuggled poultry products including birds, chicks, eggs, meat, feathers and other products is making a substantial contribution in the spreading of the H5N1 bird flu virus. Poultry smuggling turned out to be a huge and previously largely overlooked business, perhaps also has killed or led to the slaughter of more than 200 million chickens, ducks, turkeys and other domestic fowl in Asia, Europe and Africa. Species migrating from Asia across the Bering Strait are considered the most likely carriers of the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus include eiders, pintails, geese, and long-tailed ducks. There is also concern about gulls, terns and falcons.

Therefore, containment of birds is not the practical way of handling this outbreak. There are treatment options but they are limited to a few drugs. Relenza is an inhaling anti-viral medication presented by GlaxoSmith Kline Beecham that contains zanamivir is very effective, but highly inconvenient to patients. This makes Tamiflu, the number one drug in coping with bird flu. It contains oseltamivir phosphate. It is the best bet to treat bird flu. Most patients can conveniently take being in the form of tablet. It is most capable, when taken as early as possible during the illness. It may be taken with or without food. Tamiflu is a habit-forming drug, please do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor. Call your doctor if you find that you want to take extra medication or notice any other unusual changes in your behavior or mood. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor which includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements.

Antiviral drug Tamiflu [oseltamivir] was prescribed more often than any other during last year's flu season. Oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor which works by blocking the activity of the neuraminidase; Oseltamivir prevents new viral particles from being released by infected cells. It is indicated for the treatment of influenza in patients aged 1 year and older who have had signs for no more than 2 days. Tamiflu attacks the influenza (Flu) virus and stops it from spreading inside your body. It treats flu (Influenza) at its source by attacking the virus that causes the flu, rather than merely masking symptoms. It is also indicated for the prevention of influenza (Flu) in adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older.

Also inform your medical doctor and pharmacist if you are sensitive to Tamiflu or other such antiviral medications or any other medications. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Also don't forget to tell your doctor about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is also NOT advisable for children below 18 years. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, vomiting, decreased size of the pupil; difficulty in breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face extreme drowsiness, unconsciousness, seizure and mild heart attack. Generally, this medication is well tolerated and side effects are usually transient. Though, there are still some commonly reported side effects, which include: nausea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, fatigue, cold and cough or any other respiratory symptoms. Immediately stop taking oseltamivir and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction like difficulty in breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face.
