Native American Music Award Winners Arvel Bird and Red Feather Woman Announce Joint Benefit Concerts November 11th and 12th in Boulder and Colorado Sp
Nashville, TN October 10, 2006 -- Award-winning fiddlist/flutist/storyteller, Arvel Bird and Red Feather Woman have joined forces to celebrate National Native American Heritage Month by putting on two concerts in central Colorado this Veterans Day weekend to benefit The Denver Indian Family Resource Center. The first concert will be held at the Boulder Unity Church, 2855 Folsolm Street on November 11th at 7:00pm. The evening starts earlier for those who purchase tickets to the reception preceding the concert at 5:30pm where they will have a chance to meet and mingle with the artists and enjoy a special seating area. The second concert is at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, 3225 Broadmoor Valley Road, on November 12th at 7:00pm.
Both concerts will feature Arvel Bird and One Nation. Bird is a classically trained violinist, who recently won the coveted Native American Music Award’s Best Instrumental for his Arvel Bird LIVE! CD and an Indian Summer Museum Award in the Contemporary Instrumental category for his latest solo recording, Animal Totems 2. A popular entertainer, Bird performs and records in a number of diverse genres including blues, jazz, bluegrass, Celtic and contemporary Native music which gives him a continually fresh, unique sound making him one of the most in-demand Native recording artists on tour.
One Nation band includes the traditional Native American percussionist, John LoneEagle (Cherokee/ Apache), and guitarist, Vlasis (Greek). Together they join keyboardist / vocalist Chris James (Irish), Bird’s co-writer on Animal Totems and Animal Totems 2. Arvel Bird and One Nation have recorded their debut CD and are planning to release it at the Colorado Concerts.
Rose Red Elk, aka Wieka Luta Win (Red Feather Woman), is a Native American storyteller, singer, songwriter and author. She was born on the Fort Peck Reservation in Poplar, Montana and is an enrolled member of the Sioux/Assiniboine tribes. Rose has captivated audiences for more than 20 years, singing and telling traditional stories to children and adults of all ages. On June 8, 2006 in Hollywood, FL, she won the Native American Music Award, in the Spoken Word Category.
Founded in early 2000, the Denver Indian Family Resource Center is a 501(c)(3) and child welfare agency that works to meet the diverse needs of Indian children and families in the Denver metropolitan area. Specifically, the Center assists families to avoid involvement with the child welfare system and to support and advocate for families already involved, along with a variety of other services to strengthen Indian families.
