Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore & Singapore Maritime Foundation Endorses Small Asia Tankers 2006
Singapore, November 7, 2006 – Asia's inaugural conference for small tankers, "Small Tankers Asia 2006" to be held at the Ritz Carlton Millennia, Singapore from 7-8 December 2006, has gained endorsement from the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Maritime Foundation.
Themed "Managing Changes to MARPOL Annex II - The Way Forward for Shipowners and Stakeholders in the Chemical and Palm Oil Industries" this conference will address the challenges that the revisions pose and help businesses navigate these changes. Palm Oil and Chemical players are already seeing signs of an imminent supply squeeze as both parties begin to chase for the same tonnage from the start of 2007. Shipowners and stakeholders in the logistics chain of the Chemical and Palm Oil movement will benefit greatly from this event.
Mark Lim, Deputy Director-Shipping, MPA commented, "Singapore is a party to all major international maritime conventions. As a responsible Flag and Port State, MPA's objective is to help shipowners of Singapore-registered ships as well as owners and operators based in Singapore to understand and comply with the revisions to MARPOL Annex II."
