Flery Manor Celebrates Its 10th Year as a Premiere Bed and Breakfast Inn and the Opening of Its New Art Studio
Grants Pass, OR May 6, 2005 -- Building upon its award-winning reputation, Flery Manor now offers a new art studio to complement its spectacular breakfasts and scenic views. Guests are encouraged to visit the studio during their stay -- on their own or with the innkeepers, John and Marla Vidrinskas.
It's hard to imagine that anyone could resist using the art studio. Guests can choose from abundant media and supplies: canvas, clay, paint, paper, pencil, watercolors, etc. The wonderful light and serenity are perfect for creating art or enjoying other pursuits such as music, photography, or writing. Beautiful natural surroundings provide inspiration, with a seasonal stream as well as pastures, ponds, waterfalls, wildlife, and woodlands. Decks, gardens, lawns, landscaped areas, and a gazebo also beckon, while hand-raised black swans (Romeo and Juliet) continue the Manor's romantic themes from the interior to the outdoors.
To make the introduction to art less intimidating than facing a blank sketchbook or canvas, Flery Manor is offering hand tinting this month. Four black and white prints of pastoral scenes at the Manor are available for "coloring". Pencils, pens, oils, or tints are supplied by Photo-Oregon.com (a local company that offers photography workshops and a forested vacation rental venue). To demonstrate what's possible, hand-tinted original and giclee prints are showcased in the Manor's art alcoves. The photographs are provided by ThePhotoGuild.com (an online marketplace for products created by Southern Oregon artists).
California sculptor, Carol Gold, considers the art studio to be an extension of the aesthetic atmosphere she enjoys during her regular visits to Flery Manor. "I was very excited when I saw the new art studio finally completed. The interior design, light, and secluded setting all contribute to a sense of serenity. That, for me, is such a necessary ingredient for my creative flow. I can't think of a more perfect place for making art and enjoying the natural landscape on view through each window."
Carol discovered Flery Manor a few years ago. It's a convenient stopping point during her long drive from her home base north of San Francisco to her foundry and gallery in the Portland area. Carol enjoys her "mini-vacations" at the Manor. "There are few places where I have felt so relaxed and so well cared for. If Flery Manor happens to be full when I am planning a trip, I will change my driving dates so I can stay there. I feel nurtured from the moment I arrive -- as if I have been treated to a very special peaceful moment, as a pause from a very busy life."
The praise doesn't stop there. In 2004, the Josephine County Board of Commissioners acknowledged the builder, Dennis Egli, with its "Best Art Studio Project of 2003" award. Mr. Egli was recognized for his work to construct "the smallest building with the most creative use of space".
If all of this doesn't offer enough motivation to indulge guests' artistic muse, perhaps the hand-painted ceilings and walls in the Manor's common areas and suites will. The decorations highlight John and Marla's extensive art backgrounds. Three-course breakfasts expand upon the artistic theme with healthful food that is exquisitely arranged on fine china. In 1998, Chef Magazine recognized Marla's original Egg on a Cloud recipe as "strong on flavor, mouthfeel and presentation".
