New Travel And Tourism Portal Puts Mozambique on the “Christmas Vacation Map” Naturally Africa Dot Org, a leading African travel and tourism promotion website, has chosen to focus on Mozambique as part of its portal development programme. The Mozambique Portal on Naturally Africa Dot Org comprises six (6) sections where site visitors can find accommodation, things to do and see, restaurants, travel agents and tour operators, local events and business listings in Mozambique. In addition, the portal offers visitors a detailed Mozambique guide including travel information, history, flora and fauna and recommended attractions in the country.
Mozambique was devastated by a brutal civil war leaving large tracts of land infested with landmines. The country – like many others in Africa – is counting on the attraction of its naturally wonders to propel Mozambique back onto center-stage, this time as a hospitable, world-class tropical holiday destination.
Is it succeeding? Suzanne Whitby, founder of Naturally Africa Dot Org, believes it is.
"We have to be realistic: Mozambique is a poverty-stricken society – the war did a lot to damage both the people and the countryside. Having said that, Mozambique is an incredibly desirable destination because of its coastline. The beaches are stunning, and anyone interested in water sports – fishing, scuba diving, surfing, you name it – will be hard-pressed to match what Mozambique has to offer."
What about safaris and hunting?
“Parks and game stocks have suffered from the war years but the good news is that reserves are being repopulated – largely with South African help – and visitors can still enjoy a safari experience in Mozambique.”
Uplifting words, certainly, however most travellers want to know more about what Mozambique has on offer. How can a once war-torn country be the top tip for tourists from the northern hemisphere seeking some winter sunshine? With ease, is the resounding answer!
Miles of white beaches already attract visitors from South Africa, whilst the game fishing attracts visitors from around the world – apparently Mozambique is one of the best places in the world to fish for marlin! The scuba diving is equally attractive – clear waters populated with a myriad of colourful fish, reefs that are protected in marine parks like Bazaruto Island and good facilities are all draw cards. Surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing and sailing are all options once you enter this country.
Bird watchers will be pleased to know that parts of Mozambique are among the ornithologically least known areas in Africa due to the war, with over 650 species, of which 8/10 are endemic to Africa.
When it comes to wildlife parks, there are only a few open to the public, but they are certainly worthwhile – the Niassa Reserve is one of the largest protected miombo forest ecosystems in the world and the Gorongosa National Park is famed in Africa, difficult to get to and worth the visit!
The resounding message from Naturally Africa Dot Org is that Mozambique is open for business in a big way – whether you are traveling on a shoe-string, or looking for a life of luxury, the Mozambique Travel and Tourism Portal on Naturally Africa Dot Org is sure to give you the information you need to arrange the holiday of a lifetime!
