The Shared Services Excellence Awards, announced at our Annual Shared Services Week (www.sharedservicesweek.com) honors the best in running shared services organizations. The award categories include: New Shared Services, Matured Shared Services, Most Advanced Automation and the Shared Services Leader of the Year. The winners for 2005 were: Carlson Human Resources Shared Services; Bellsouth Affiliate Services Corporation; Northrop Grumman Integrated System Financial Service Center; Ruth Bramson Chief Human Resources Officer, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

“The honor of being recognized as the 2005 Shared Services Leader of the Year was tremendously exciting, but it was in large measure the result of the efforts and dedication of professionals of the Human Resources Division and the Secretariats’ HR directors and their staff” said Ruth Bramson, Chief Human Resources Officer, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, “Their willingness to embrace a vision for change and challenge the status quo are the catalyst for the tremendous success of the Shared Services model.”

Bramson also added, “Because of this important award, the work we are doing in Shared Services received tremendous visibility in the Commonwealth and our efforts to continue to expand the model and receive the funding support from the Legislature were made a lot easier and more successful. But this is a work in progress and we are continually improving as we take on each new challenge. The Shared Services Network provides us with a tremendous resource of colleagues and companies who are dealing with the same counter-cultural reform efforts as we are. We test our ideas and share best practices. Our participation has proved to be a great investment.”

“The BellSouth Affiliate Services Corporation (BASC) was honored to win the coveted 2005 Best Mature Shared Services Award” said Ed Martinez, Executive Director, Bellsouth Affiliate Services Corporation, “The industry recognition provides an objective external and independent view of BASC’s success and contribution to BellSouth. As the partnership between BASC and the BellSouth business units continue to evolve, the value and quality derived from the Shared Services and Outsourcing Network, and its associated publications, communications vehicles and conferences, continues to expand. The BASC organization has been an active participant with IQPC in sharing and securing knowledge in the Shared Services and Outsourcing areas, and plans to continue to do so in the future.”

The conference program will cover topics such as effectively managing shared service delivery and also how to define meaningful performance metrics for shared services centers. Hear Commonwealth of Massachusetts deliver a session that will provide a practical and useful approach to identifying what defines satisfaction for different constituencies, and how to measure and improve it. BellSouth Service Center will share actual results achieved in its first several years of operation, in addition to discussing some of the approaches that they have taken in designing and using balanced performance metrics to develop a common high performance culture.

This year’s summit will feature 3 exercise driven workshops that are dedicated to benchmarking, whether you are a new or mature shared service you will find a workshop that is tailored for you. Each attendee company of these benchmarking sessions will be asked to complete a pre-workshop survey, thus allowing the workshop facilitators to direct discussions in much more detail to allow for a true benchmarking experience. Workshop numbers will be limited to 25 companies in each to ensure that each participating company is given the opportunity to discuss their particular operational process in detail.
