Dell, Villanova Team to Simulate Trading FloorVillanova University finance students can now get a Wall Street experience without leaving Philadelphia with a technology assist from Dell.

The university's College of Commerce & Finance has opened its Applied Finance Lab, a simulated trading floor combining the latest Dell technology with real-time financial data, which, among other features, enables students to analyze financial problems and see the results of their decisions in the marketplace.

This state-of-the-art facility, a collaboration between Villanova University and Dell, features group work areas equipped with Dell desktop systems and flat-panel monitors, ticker displays, Dell LCD TVs and a Bloomberg terminal displaying financial information for students to use in making financial decisions. The lab was the vision of a team of Villanova faculty and was designed by Philadelphia architect Ueland, Junker, McCauley & Nicholson.

"With this facility, Villanova undergraduate and graduate finance students will be able to the develop skills and learn the research tools that will truly differentiate them in today's competitive job market," said David Nawrocki, Ph.D., director, Institute for Research in Advanced Financial Technology. "With the Villanova Applied Finance Lab, we are providing students and faculty with resources and research opportunities not found in most university settings. We put classroom theory into practice on a daily basis."

John Mullen, vice president of Dell's higher education business, said "intelligent classrooms" like Villanova's are equipping today's students with skills they'll need when they enter the workforce.
