9 Days of EasterMoldavia is one of the last regions in Romania that cradles the remaining of a fascinating civilization- the original gipsy community – in the small village of Cozmesti, about 60 km away from the city of Iasi and is also the deeply spiritual landmark.
This timeless place fosters, in harmony, both the Romanian and the gypsy cultures. Nowadays the gipsy people are farmers, but most interestingly they keep to their worldwide appreciated music heritage, and still play as a band on centuries old instruments passed down from generation to generation. That is why theirs is an important role in all village life, be it celebration or mourning.
This is a journey that will take those who chose to embark on it to the secluded legendary monasteries in Moldavia and Bucovina for Easter mass and traditional Easter meals.
The peak of the event is the unique gipsy Easter that takes place in Cozmesti, locally known as ‘Green Thursday’ – as the gypsies work as musicians on Easter ( Sunday, Monday and Tuesday ) they celebrate their own Easter on the first Thursday after the Romanian Easter in accordance to Christian Orthodox religion .
This is a rare opportunity to set aside prejudice and celebrate alongside the locals, to enjoy typical gypsy cooking and Romanian wine tasting, accompanied by the gypsy award winning band music.
This 9 days tour allows access to unique, virtually untouched places such as Gura Humorului and never before seen rituals and celebrations, at four star standards of accommodation and transportation.
